Kidding Around in Chester County

Have you heard about WalkWorks ChesCo! yet?  It is an initiative started last year by the Chester County Health Department (CCHD) and it is a great, FREE way to explore several of Chester County’s communities!

WalkWorks ChesCo! boroughs include West Chester, Phoenixville, Kennett Square, and the city of Coatesville.  Each municipality featured has its own designated walk from 1-2 miles long.  Each walk takes walkers along some of the most historic and interesting civic sights around town.  All walks include wayfinding signage (pictured) to help you stay on the trail and all of the routes link walkers to parks, trails, and other free family friendly fun!  If you are looking to explore any of these communities, THIS is the way to do it.  You never know what hidden gem you may find; a new restaurant, a pocket park, or a cool new historic topic to share with your kiddos!

We have walked all of the routes and find the experience to be enjoyable in any season.  From the tree-lined streets of West Chester Borough showing off georgous spring flowers or mesmerizing fall foliage; to the happening buzz of downtown Phoenixville in the summer; to the ever-changing landscape of Coatesville as the city rivitalizes; to the unique and quaint blend of old and new that is Kennett Square, each route has something amazing to offer!  There are postcards available for each walk depicting points of interest, parking options, and more so you can plan before you go.  You can check them out here.

CCHD also has a county-wide walking challenge going on and uses a step tracker app that is easy to use and syncs with most step counting devices!  Check it out and see if your community has a group and if not, start one!

Pro-tip: this is a GREAT way for new moms to get out and about in the community AND start to feel empowered by taking a first step (pun intended) to getting back into a healthy routine while having fun with your kids!  Walking has sure helped this FTM!
